History ISSB

  • There was no system of Armed Forces Officers’ Selection till WW-II
  • In 1942; In British Army; War Office Selection Board was setup
  • In 1943; same Board was established in Sub-Continent.
  • Two of these Boards were inherited by Pakistan – which constituted First ISSB Centre in Kohat in 1952.  
  • Today there are FOUR ISSB centers; with testing capacity of 20k candidates every year.  

Why Need ISSB

  • This is only profession where the pledge is to sacrifice one’s life.
  • This is only profession where the stakes are too high, defense of country and lives of human beings
  • Only profession where commitment is 24/7 for one’s life.
  • Where such extremely high stakes are involved; it is absolutely necessary to have an elaborate system of selection; that is why we have ISSB centers.

What Happens ISSB

  • ISSB is FOUR days test schedule.
  •  Physical, Mental, Social & Dynamic aspects of candidates are tested.
  • These aspects are assessed by Intelligence/Psy Tests; GTO tasks and Interviews.
  • Day-1 is used for forms filling; Day-2 is spent for written Int/Psy tests; Day-3 is used for GTO tasks & Interviews.
  • Day-4 is for preparation of results, conferences and dispersal of the candidates.
