Step-4: Flexibility & Adaptability

Practically the most powerful tool for any speech delivery; especially one where we are not sure of topic; is always the ability to be flexible and adoptive in one’s speech. at ISSB – no body can be 100% sure of speech topic; hence Flexibility & Adoptability.

  • Flexibility: Being flexible means being able to adapt your speech to the audience and the situation. For example, if you are speaking to a group of children, you will need to use different language and delivery techniques than if you were speaking to a group of adults.
  • Adoption: Adoption means being open to feedback and making changes to your speech based on what you learn. This could involve changing the order of your points, adding or removing information, or adjusting your delivery style.

Here are some practical tips on how to build flexibility and adoption in speech delivery:

  • Practice your speech in front of different people: This will help you to get feedback on how your speech is coming across and make adjustments as needed.
  • Be prepared for unexpected questions or comments: If someone asks you a question that you weren’t expecting, don’t panic. Take a few seconds to think about your answer and then respond in a clear and concise way.
  • Be willing to change your plans: If something happens during your speech that you didn’t expect, be willing to change your plans and adapt your delivery accordingly.
  • Be open to feedback: After your speech, ask for feedback from the audience and from other people who heard it. This feedback can help you to identify areas where you can improve your flexibility and adoption in the future.
