Step-7
Building Teams

Make your Team Responsible & Independent.  If you treat your team like kids, they’ll act like kids, and you’ll end up having to spend a lot of time managing them and making decisions for them. This can be a big waste of your time and effort. What you really want are team members who can handle things on their own. They do best when you trust them and give them responsibility and freedom.

In a good work environment, people talk to each other directly and clearly. No need for complicated words or long, fancy explanations. Get straight to the point and show your team what you mean. Don’t just sit in meetings talking about problems; go where the problems are to see what’s going on.

And when you need to criticize or give feedback, be honest. Sometimes, big teams or groups that don’t know each other well can have trouble speaking up. But it’s important to have open and honest communication so that you can criticize bad ideas when you need to.

Finally, there are some words you should avoid when talking to your team. For example, avoid using words like “need,” “must,” “only,” and “can’t.” They sound like you’re judging someone’s situation, and they can make it hard to have a good discussion. Also, don’t use the word “ASAP” too much when you need something. It can make other requests seem less important, and it’s better to be clear about the urgency.
