Step-6
Save Mental Judgement to go Painless

When you realize that your mind is causing you pain and stopping you from fully living in the present, you need to separate yourself from it.

How?

To do this, you must become fully aware of your mind and the power it has over you. Otherwise, you won’t understand the many subtle ways it influences your thoughts, behavior, and happiness.

For instance, to observe your mind, ask: ‘What will my next thought be?’ If you focus on this question, you’ll see it takes a while before the next clear thought arrives. By observing, you create a gap in the flow of thinking.

If you do this often, you’ll notice how much your mind usually occupies you. This is a primary tool for interrupting your mind and separating from it.

The second method is to observe your mind without judging. Judging is an act of the mind, so if you judge something, you’re using your mind again.

For example, if you feel like running in the middle of work, follow that impulse. Your body knows what’s good for it. Then, listen to the voice inside your head that says you should be working, but don’t judge it. Just smile and accept it. This way, you’ll learn to notice your mind without always following its lead.
