Step-3
Care for the Credit

Have you ever thought about copying someone else’s work and pretending it’s your own? Or maybe during a math test, you peeked at your friend’s answers? Well, gaining power often involves using others’ work to your advantage. Why do all the hard work when someone else can do it for you? For instance, the Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla worked for the famous inventor Thomas Edison. Surprisingly, Tesla was the real genius behind Edison’s famous dynamo, even though Edison gets all the credit.

To figure this out, Tesla worked tirelessly for a whole year, sometimes working 18-hour days in the lab. But today, everyone thinks Edison did it. Not much has changed. Few politicians write their speeches, and famous writers often “borrow” from others.

But it’s not enough to benefit from others’ work; you also need to take credit for it. Edison and his company took all the credit for Tesla’s dynamo work. Edison didn’t share any of his profits with Tesla, even though he had promised him $50,000! So, based on Tesla’s experience, remember that getting credit for your work is just as important as the work itself. If you don’t claim credit, someone else might steal your idea and get all the praise for it.
