Step-7
Be Confident

Are you in a higher position than someone else? If you are, it’s important to act like it, unless you want others to see you as their equal. But be careful, pretending to be equal to others when you’re actually in a higher position will make people disrespect you. Let’s take King Louis-Philippe of France in the 1830s and 1840s as an example. He didn’t like the formalities of being a king and didn’t follow the rules. He wore a gray hat and held an umbrella instead of his crown and scepter. He also spent time with bankers, not other royalty. But this behavior didn’t help him; he became disliked by both rich and poor people. The wealthy thought he was an unfit king, and the poor didn’t like that he acted like them but didn’t help them. Even his banker friends started insulting him because he didn’t stop them. Eventually, the people rebelled, and he was forced to give up the throne.

Generally, people don’t trust leaders who act like regular folks because they might think you’re being tricky to hide your privileges. So, what’s a better approach? You should use the “crown” strategy – act like you’re in charge, and people will treat you with respect. If you believe you’re above others and behave that way, people will start to think there’s a good reason for it. Christopher Columbus acted confidently around the Spanish royal family, and that’s why most people saw him as someone important. His socializing with them convinced the Spanish throne to fund his voyages.
