Step-6
Employ a Positive Attitude

Have you ever felt like you’re always facing bad luck or doomed to fail? Well, that might be because of some unhelpful traits you need to recognize and control. When you figure out what’s causing these repeated problems, you can change things and avoid future disasters. One of the big reasons for self-sabotage is having a negative attitude, but the good news is, you can change it.

Let’s take the example of a famous playwright, Anton Chekhov. When he was a kid, he had a tough life. His father treated him badly and made him work instead of going to school. His family even had to leave him behind in Moscow when they moved. It would be understandable if Chekhov had become very negative.

But instead, he had a special ability to understand and feel sorry for his father. He forgave him and let go of his anger. This made his mind feel free. Negative feelings should be released. If you hold onto anger or worthlessness, it can create a prison for you. Some people turn to drugs and alcohol to hide their pain. If you have dark or negative feelings inside you, it’s important to admit them. Then you can use them in a positive way.

The author calls these hidden feelings a “shadow self,” and the more you hide them, the more destructive they can be when they come out. Think about former US president Richard Nixon, who kept his angry feelings inside until they caused problems that ruined his time in office.
