Step-5
Learn to Separate Mind from Body

The ego, a powerful part of our minds, is just one reason it’s essential to pay more attention to our bodies and not just our thoughts. Many wise teachers have emphasized focusing on the body rather than the mind.

But why?

Because the mind often causes pain. It keeps bringing up memories of the past or making plans for the future, filling our lives with regrets and worries. This stops us from enjoying the present moment.

Since we can’t change the past or the future, we end up worrying about things we can’t control, leading to pain.

So, how can we reduce the mind’s power?

By shifting our focus to the body.

Your body knows what’s best for you. Listening to your body helps you understand what’s important in your life. Even Jesus talked about the importance of the body in proverbs like “Your body is a temple.” His stories emphasize that his body, not just his mind or soul, ascended to heaven.

No one has found enlightenment by concentrating only on the mind.

The Buddha, for example, tried to separate from his body through six years of abstinence, including fasting. The result? He felt disconnected from his body but didn’t find peace or enlightenment. He only achieved enlightenment when he embraced his body again.
